On Friday, TakomaDogs met architect Eric Saul of Saul Architects at the site of the planned Takoma Park dog park. Eric and Joe Edgell of TakomaDogs measured the approximate boundaries of the planned park as well as location of trees meeting the City's definition of Urban Forest Trees, that is, trees greater than 7⅝ inches in diameter or more than 24 inches in circumference. These trees must be preserved to comply with the City's Tree Ordinance, as well as to provide vital shade for the dogs on hot days.
Eric now plans to produce a rough design drawing, showing location of necessary retaining walls so that the City can prepare cost estimates. The preliminary design and cost estimates then will be presented to City Council for approval, and hopefully for inclusion in the City's upcoming fiscal year budget. Takoma Park's 2015 fiscal year begins on July 1, 2014.
