Now's the time we need your help. The City Manager has placed $50,000 in his budget for the dog park, only enough to complete design and some site preparation. Given the site chosen by the City, $50k is not enough to even get the park open. We need the park open this year.
Here's how you can help.
Please come to the City Council budget hearing Monday, April 7 at 7:00 p.m. We need you to make a short statement during the public comment period at 7:00. Please make three points:
1. Thank the City Manager for placing money for a dog park in the fiscal year 2015 budget.
2. Propose that the City Council allocate additional funds so construction can be completed, not just design.
3. Plan to open the park by October 31, 2014.
If you cannot come testify, please send an email similar to what's below to the City Council:
Dear City Council:
The dog park was proposed in July 2013. The plan was to have the park open for the Takoma Park community in summer 2014. The current plan, however, is to not open the dog park until late 2015. This is unacceptable.
Please budget sufficient funds to open the park by the end of the summer this year, 2014. And please direct the City Manager to prioritize dog park completion so that the park is open this year.
Thank you for your support of this important community resource!
