Three Years and Counting: Come Tell Council to Get on the Stick

Three years ago we started the petition drive for a dog park in Takoma Park. Three years and we're still waiting. It was promised by the end of June, 2015 by the prior City Manager. Then it was the end of summer. Then it was the end of the year. But since no shovel has yet turned on the site, it's unlikely we'll see it open by the end of the year. It's time to come to the City Council and express your frustration on November 16. Time to demand they get a move on.

If you read the update from City staff immediately before this post, you'll see that staff believe the hold up is the County. Last time we spoke with the County, they pointed the collective governmental finger at Takoma Park. It's the classic case of each party saying it's the other party's problem. That's why we need to bring some political pressure to bear.

We need a sizable show of attendance on November 16. If you do not feel comfortable speaking, at least show up and fill the seats to show you're concerned. We'll ask for a show of hands of the supporters, so the more of us there are, the more of an impact we'll make.

The new City Council will be sworn in on November 16, and I want them all to hear from the dog park supporters. There will be a new mayor and two new Council members.

So please plan to be at the Takoma Park Community Center at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 16. Plan to make a comment, if you feel comfortable. Wear your Dog Park T-shirts and show your strength!
