It's been a week since the last update. This past week the contractor finished installation of the artificial turf, poured the concrete for the two entry pads, and finished the drainage rock installation. They also installed vegetation matting to prevent erosion. This substrate will allow grass and plants to grow, holding the soil on the slopes not used by dogs.
According to City staff, the contractor still needs to install the fence, entry gates, Flexi-Pave (a permeable surface so wheelchairs can roll in the park) and a concrete pipe under the gravel entrance. We asked the City Manager on Sunday for a firm grand opening date and celebration. She said she would get back to us soon with a date.
We also got an email from Public Works the past week with an answer to our question about the turf. Th City did not install either of the two pet turfs we expected and instead installed an off-brand we've never heard of called "Pet Turf" from Synthetic Turf International. We plan to research this grass to ensure there is no heavy metal content. We only hope it has the durability of the other turfs and that the installer understood how to keep the turf's substrate from shifting on the hillside, something the K9 Grass installer specifically understood.
